Chapter 5: Heated Battle

The Overlord in the making charged forward, the Rock Minions having been able to create enough chaos to prevent the small Saipern force occupying the city from organizing an effective counter strike, hopefully it would last long enough for him to reach and terminate the commanding officer.

His train of thought was cut off when a particularly brazen Saipern soldier charged him, having somehow gotten around the growing Rock Minion chargers. It didn't serve him well as Ramtalos stopped him in his tracks, disarmed and then disemboweled him in a quick series of fluid motions. Incompetent soldiers, Ramtalos thought as the soldier crumbled to a pile of flesh and bones, its a wonder how the Saipern empire was so powerful with such laxly trained soldiers.

"Aww, your talents are a sight to see." Gerbil's voice was heard through the amulet, Ramtalos noted that they needed a better way to communicate, having everyone being able to hear his conversations with his advisor could kill the element of surprise when it counts, "You're almost there, sire, right around the corner."

Ramtalos smiled; despite himself, he had to admit that he was going to enjoy this, Niatwajit wasn't loved by the people of Kator. He was down right despised, the younger citzens having it the worst. As Ramtalos and the Rock Minions rounded the corner, he laid his eyes upon the Manor in the center of town. How he despised it. It was a large and fancifiul building, looking completely out of place in the middle town, being made of stone and metal, and built by the people of the city under threat of death. Ramtalos himself had helped hoist one of the pillars into place, and now he had returned to tear it down.

However, that might be harder than he had original planned. As the manor was heavily guarded, and the soldiers around the manor seemed far more organized, and now were pointing there spears and blades towards him.

==================================

Anjie could still hardly believe what she was doing. Soldiers were running around, she was being forced to fight a few off, having killed a few of the people she had once served with, chased others off. And surprisingly, she had gotten two others to join her, though they did have to lose their armor, so the living boulders wouldn't attack them. Like her, they were both locals, so she had them go and try to rally the citzens to their side against the panicking Saipern forces, even if she wasn't sure it would be much better under Ramtalos.

Currently she was at a crossroad of the circular formed town, working her way through towards the center, and noticing several of the minions seeming to not really get what they were doing, she had witnessed one of them even being slain even with it's thick Rock armor because it didn't know any better. Their stupidity knew no bounds, it seemed. It was shortly after that thought when she saw another shoulder coming up on another minion, one she actually recognized, it was Pebs, and he currently was wearing the helmet of a fallen officer, backwards, so he couldn't see anything.

"Pebs," she cried out, "Behind you!"

To her great surpise, and to that of the guard behind her, the Rock Minion successfully dodged out of the way of the soldier's spear plunge with a quick duck, and then lept backwards, burying its sharp back spikes into the the man's unguarded stomach, taking him down in one quick movement. Anjie was shocked, she had never seen one of the Rock things move that fast before, she smiled a bit, whistling to get the attention of the Minions around her, and started shouting orders, the Minions following them after Pebs did.

==================================

Gerbil watched from the orb, rather enjoying the chaos, bringing him back to the days when he was able to sit around the pool to watch his previous lord at work. Fires burned, chaos reigned, and even the citizens were driving out the Saipern empire. While at the center of Kator, his current master and a group of some of the more powerful Minions were in combat with the guards of the Captian. They seemed to be the only well-trained troops there, but even they were not match for the unusual opponents they were facing. Gerbil smiled a bit as his master found an opening and dashed into the building. "Be careful master, he might not look like it, but the captian of this area is a famed fighter and vicious in combat. If he wasn't such a bother he might have made a good servant."

Ramtalos knew this of course, but he wasn't worried, "I know, is he up there?"

The older brown checked, "Yes sir, waiting right upstairs on his pavillion, he seems to have some sort of axe to fight wi-" he stopped cold when the image went out after a flash of black, "Blast it, the picture is out, another presence is messing with the orb, I won't be able to help you sire until I get it fixed."

The Ruborian sighed, and looked up the stairs, also thankful that the Captian was kind enough to have had all his guards posted outside the building. "Thats just great," he said quietly, looking still determined, he quickly rushed up the stairs. The upper floor of the manor was flat and open, surrounded by pillars holding up the roof. Ramtalos was never sure why the Captian had done it that way, but at the moment, he really didn't care, for he saw his target, standing out on the edge of the balcony, watching the Minions and soldiers battle.

He grinned slightly, slowly approaching his target, his training as a thief giving him an advantage. He thought so at least until he heard a cloick, and the entrance to the stairway, the only way to the top floor, suddenly had a slab of stone slam shut over it. Ramtalos quickly spun around to it, not so confident now.

"So you finaly arrive," Niatwajit said, slowly turning to face Ramtalos, "I've been waiting for this." In his hand, he held his blackend and burnt axe, "I don't know who you think you are, but you're clearly not an Overlord, just some punk using his visage to spread fear and panic." He approached the now slightly shaken Overlord in training, "Don't even consider escape, you see, this place was designed for one thing, to keep any thieves or wannabe assassins right here," he said as he pressed with his free hand on a part of the nearest pillar, stone fences coming down from each of the archways, effectively turning the top floor into one large cage.

Ramtalos looked around, then glared back at Niatwajit, it would figure a man like him would have a chamber designed specificly to kill people. The young man took a deep breath and moved to a fighting pose, only succeeding in rising a chuckle from the larger man, which resulted in making Ramtalos more angry than he had started. "Pretty cowardly to trap your opponents, can't win a fight any other way?"

Niatwajit just grinned, "Why should I give them a fighting chance," he lifted his axe and rested it on his shoulder, ready to fight, "Take every advantage you can and kick them while they're down, there is no more sure way to power and glory!" The large man moved at a very impressive speed for his stature and swung the axe right at Ramtalos.

He had to move quickly, having not expected the large man to be this quick, this wasn't even supposed to be a real battle, he cursed his rotten luck. He continued to dogde and parry as Niatwajit kept up the attack, but was quickly running out of energy, he had to think of something, anything, to turn the tables, and fast.

Ramtalos quickly decided the axe must go, he lifted up his hand crafted blade up to block the axe's down swing, being forced to a kneel from the sheer weight and force of the blow, but it gave him the chance he was looking for. He leaned back further and slide the blade down off the axe, allowing it to come closer to him, just inches from his face, but he quickly jerked his blade back up underneath the axe blade and twisted. He succesfully disarmed the larger man, though his victory was short lived as Niatwajit suddenly grabbed his arm and tossed him to the wall, forcing him to drop his blade as well.

Gerbil had gotten his image back shortly after the battle had begun, but had remained silent, not wanting to distract his master during such a crucial moment, he just watched worriedly and in silence, hoping that his new master wouldn't fall so quickly.

Ramtalos, in pain, and tired, couldn't believe what was happening, this was Captian Niatwajit, a man that, he thought, couldn't possibly be in the shape required to pull off the strength and speed that he was  demonstrating. His thoughts were shaken away as the large man continued after him, now using his fists to strike, tossing Ramtalos around like a rag doll, actually being more effective then he was with the axe.

"Pathetic!" Niatwajit bellowed, loving this, obviously, "And you tried to call yourself an Overlord, don't make me laugh." He hit Ramtalos again, knocking him back and causing him to fall. He landed on the ground near the discarded axe, losing his hood in the process, Niatwajit stopped, then grinned. "Well well, if it isn't the little thief, I should have guessed, no one else could be this pathetic in a fight".

Ramtalos' anger continued to build, hatred which he had control over before started to cloud his vision, "Shut up," he growled.

The outburst just raised a laugh from Niatwajit, "Why should I, you never could hold your tongue, I lost track of how many times we threw you into the cages just to have you weasel your way out every time," He stopped over Ramtalos, who was still attempting to get up from the floor, "Give up, no son of a whore like you could ever hope to win."

This caused Ramtalos to snap, he could no longer quell the anger in him and no longer desired to. With a roar of anger, he grabbed the fallen axe, quickly moving up, and swung out at Niatwajit as the rage now fueling him dulled his pain, forgetting his exhaustion. The Captian attempted to block it with his metal bracer, and was taken back in horror as he was suddenly not only knocked back from the strike, but the bracer shattered, and a jagged cut now was on his arm.

"What in the name of Par-" he was cut off as the now enraged Ramtalos striked again, this blow denting the powerful chest plate and breaking one of its buckles, Niatwajit was knocked back all the way to one of his pillars, inadvertedly hitting the switch which re-raised the gates around the room, but he took no notice. The man he was facing now was not the boy he had been fighting before, he seemed larger somehow, his eyes burning red with fury and savagery, it almost seemed as if he could see the very heat from his anger rising from him, a strange hissing filled the air. It was suddenly clear to the man, he was indeed facing the Overlord, and he stood no chance.

"P-please! Don't kill me!" Niatwajit begged as he fell to his knees, in fear for his very life, trying to do what he did best and weasel his way out of it, "I will pledge my allegiance to you... o-oh great Overlord!"

The enranged Ramtalos approached, everything was red to him, his pounding heart beat in his ear, and it was almost as if he could see the viens in Niatwajit pumping and his heart beating rapidly in terror. He continued to glare at the begging man, "Never again!" He raised the axe again and swung it down, the axe digging deep into Niatwajit's shoulder when he tried to avoid the strike. Ramtalos roared savagely as he did so, and in response, the axe, and therefore Niatwajit, suddenly burst into flames.

He pulled the burning axe from Niatwajit, and watched as he, fully ablaze, rushed off, trying in vain to put out the infernal fire now covering him. Running and swatting at himself, he failed to stop before he fell right off the ledge of the building, right into the view of the remaining soldiers surrounding the manor, all of them panicked when they realized it was their commanding officer.

Ramtalos approached the balconey, eyes still red, but anger subsiding, he watched as the burning pile of flesh and cloth rapidly stopped moving, the end of Niatwajit. He looked up and around at the few remaining soldiers, who upon seeing him, quickly retreated, not wanting to risk being his next victim. He continued to survey the area until his eyes landed on a familiar figure, Anjie, who looked a bit horrified from what she had just witnessed happen from the distance.

His mind instantly cleared, and he hissed in pain, dropping the axe. Without the added rage, he had no protection from the searing heat that was coming off of the handle, burning deeper than just his skin, it felt like it was burning to his very core. "... what is this thing." He wondered quietly to himself.

==================================

Gerbil was stunned silent, eyes wide looking at the heated axe now lying on the ground, that being all the orb was focused on. He could not believe what he was looking at, in his wildest dreams he didn't expect this.

"... Vessperion" He whispered under his breath, that was no doubt in Gerbils mind that it was his old master's axe, still holding the power of the Reds within it, the other minions sacrificed into the blade would have also explained the unnatural strength and agility that Niatwajit possesed. He quickly shook himself out of his stupor and re-engaged the link to Ramtalos, "Well done Sire, without their leader, the remaining forces will surely be easily delt with." He explained quietly, already working out how to finish up in Kator.

==================================

Chaos and destruction ran through the streets of Kator, Jewel could see it all from a distant hilltop, atop her dark horse, she watched as the unprepared guards were overwhelmed and parts of the city were covered in flames. The surviving soldiers rushing out of the fallen city, injured or just plain afraid for their well being, though most seemed to be making the mistake of retreating to the north towards the Sandworm fields, or to the west, the bomber beetles breeding grounds, and it happened to be mating season for them. She gave the deserters two days at most before they were some creature's meal.

"... it truly has begun again." Jewel said coldly, one listening closely might hear an undertone of sorrow in her voice.

The bandit closest to her, atop his camel, watched her closely, he looked a bit differnt from the few others there, having a silver sash around his chest and shoulder, "... Ma'am?" He cautiously spoke.

Jewel slowly looked at the Bandit, "... Barid... it is time... spread the word to all the leaders of the thieves guild," She spoke, still cold as ever, eyes returning to the first of what was sure to many conquests for Ramtalos, ".... the Overlord... has returned." Barid bowed to her, turned, and rode as fast as he could, towards Vorgtriok, City of the Black Gates.
